Entry Form

Author: Rachele Vitello - September 11, 2020

Slowly but steadily, some regattas are timidly yet very happily happening in Europe and North America, and some are scheduled for the oncoming weeks. Two silver events will take place in the Old Continent over September and October, the Eastern Hemisphere in Cannes, France, and the European Championship in Riva del Garda, Italy. The former was previously planned for the beginning of May, while the latter was scheduled to be held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Nothing went according to plans this year, but the Eastern Hemisphere in Cannes looks like it might even be better now, with many exciting events planned on the water and ashore, as it is associated to the historic “Regate Royales de Cannes”, the traditional classic boat week in the South of France. Almost thirty teams will bring their bonnets and stripy shirts to fit in with the locals and race in the beautiful bay, taking a walk on the Croisette at sunset before stopping for a glass of rosé. You may think it’s all so cliché, but that is what sailing in the South of France is like, it is not by accident that you say ‘Champagne Sailing’ when it’s all smooth and fun!

10 nations are represented among the entries, one World Champion, Italian Enrico Chieffi with crew Manlio Corsi, and different Silver Stars, like Diego Negri and Class President Hubert Merkelbach, many more members of the Star Class family and some new faces, all eager to get back onboard and challenge their skills among the other competitors on the racecourse.

Racing will start on Monday 21st at 1130, but boats are allowed access from Saturday September 19th. Two races per day are scheduled from Monday to Wednesday and only one on Thursday 24th, with the start to be given no later than 4pm.

Due to Covid, no social events are scheduled other than the prize giving; wearing a clean mask and keeping the distances is highly advised at all time when off the boat, but all this preventive measures won’t stop the thrill to be once again sailing altogether at an international event, don’t miss it!

The REGATES ROYALES show will be present in the bay of Cannes this year again.
