This 2020 edition of the Régates Royales organized by the Yacht Club de Cannes was the return of the legendary ex-Olympic STAR series in Cannes. It was supposed to be the 2020 EHC but unfortunately caught back with the restrictions linked to the Covid, only the French crews had responded from the 3 major fleets of the class, Paris, Annecy and Nice.

The plateau was raised with the young members of Pole France Mattéo Chaboud and Eddy Ruppert who came next to their base in Antibes to do battle with the elders of the series. In fact, it was the latter who were in the lead at the end of the first day, under threatening skies but with a nice breeze of 8 knots. The next day no race due to the thunderstorm that hit the whole of the French Riviera. It was the second day of the race that would allow Charton and Puisségur to widen the gap over their pursuers. In fact, in much more established wind conditions, rising crescendo from 12 to 20 knots, the 3 races saw the Nice win the first two races and give up the last to the Marseilles Dabry / Cotte. This second day ended with a reaching edge to reach the old port of Cannes in mind-boggling surfs by force 6/7. The last day was going to turn out to be more chaotic due to the stormy front returning to the Cannes hinterland which made setting up the races very complicated. In the end, a last round was raced in a very unstable wind oscillating from 5 to 15 knots and Jean-Gabriel Charton and Jean-François Puisségur secured second place in the round to end up winning these Royal regattas. A warm applause to Marseille’s team Raoul Dabry and Tristan Cotté and especially the young thumbs of the class, champions of Nacra 15 Mattéo Chaboud and Eddy Ruppert.

We hope to be back for the reschedule EHC in 2021 in this amazing sailing area of Cannes.
