In the Bahamas from 3 to 8 December 2013 will be the first final of the League of Star Sailors, an invitational regatta reserved for the best helmsmen of the longest Olympic class. Robert Scheidt and Paul Cayard will be among the champions present.
The eleven best among the currently active staristi compete in the Sailors Star League Final in 2013, the first event of the this league, organized by the Nassau Yacht Club. On the starting line will be Robert Scheidt (BRA), Xavier Rohart (FRA), Freddy Loof (SWE), Eivind Melleby (NOR ), Michael Hestbæk (DEN), Flavio Marazzi SUI), Johannes Polgar(GER), Robert Stanjek (GER), Kusznierewicz Mateusz (POL),George Szabo( USA), Diego Negri(ITA) and the wild card Paul Cayard (USA). A long-time star sailor and all-round (in his curriculum are a Louis Vuitton Cup with the Moor of Venice in 1992 and a Whitbread Round the World Race [today the Volvo Ocean Race] with EF Language). In other words, on the water there will be three Olympic gold medals and 11 Star world champions. Unprecedented also is the racing format: fleet racing for the 18 competitors in the first three days of racing, for a maximum of nine races. On the fourth day will start the semi-finals for the top ten crews.
The quarter-finals and final will narrow the fleet down to the last three. The overall winner of the event will be the first to the finish line in the last race and will receive 4,000 points for the ranking of the Star Sailors league. Interesting that the jackpot of US $200,000 will be divided among the various participants in accordance with their final ranking in the event. Awards will be given for the Best Skipper of the Year and the Best Crew of the Year, which will be the "Simpson Memorial Trophy" in memory of the late Andrew Simpson. For those who want to have the opportunity to follow this clash of the titans live , you can go to www.starsailors.com and follow the action with the Virtual Eye, the same software used in America's Cup
In addition, all sailing enthusiasts can participate, albeit virtually, with Virtual Regatta INSHORE. Explains Philippe Guigne, CEO and creator of Virtual Regatta: "We are very happy to work with the Star League Sailors and offer the opportunity to play before, during (Live) and after the event to our million members. With this event we are doing an important step forward : it is the first time that the version INSHORE offers a customized boat, the Star, and its unique ranking system."
