It has already become a tradition that the Vintage Starboat Race is held by the Zurich Yacht Club on the last weekend in August. The 6th edition was packed with highlights. With 17 registered boats from five nations (SUI, GER, NED, ITL, USA), a new record number of participants was set. Mathias Witt and Stefan Grosenick made the 1,000km journey from Warnemünde with GER 4261 "Butterfly" to be there in Zurich. They were not the only ones with a long journey.
Another highlight was the naming ceremony of SUI 4654 "Estella" on Friday evening. Estella is already Hans-Rudolf Osterwalder's 4th wooden star boat, which has been lovingly and with a lot of effort restored by Dominik Schenk and his team from Ermatingen. The 5th boat is already in Dominik's halls and is waiting to be worked on. We are excited!
Regatta report: Two races were sailed on Saturday in cold and rainy conditions. The first race was won by Christoph and Tina Gautschi on SUI 5009 "Fram VI". The second race went to Kurt Scheidegger and Daniel Stegmeier on SUI 4672 "Fiamma". Unfortunately, no more races could be held on Sunday, so the victory went to the team Scheidegger/Stegmeier with a second and first place. FINAL RESULTS
The organising committee would like to thank all the sailors for their commitment and the Zurich Yacht Club for their hospitality! We are already looking forward to the Vintage Starboat season 2024 and many wooden Starboats. As soon as the dates have been determined, we will inform you.
