Attention Star Sailors,
Members recently approved Resolution #18-2019, Electronic Devices. This resolution has raised the question, “What is a legally approved Electronic Device?”
Several years ago the TAB approved specific devices that provided limited GPS technology. The approval of this recent resolution in fact bans many of those already approved compass’s. We recognize several hundred of these compass’s are being used today and do not want to create more costs for our members. After discussion with the the author of the resolution, we determine it was not their intention to ban equipment already approved, but to limit the costs of electronic equipment allowed going forward. Technology advances exponentially fast and it is difficult to keep up. We have therefore decided to make an approved list of electronic devices for you. This list is good for the 2020 calendar year, and will be revisited in 2021.
