Star Class Honoring the Past, Leading the Future
Although it is always disappointing to have a day without racing during such an exciting regatta - it was the right call by the race committee.The fleet progressed down the river and onto the lake for an on the water delay, and ultimately the call was made to end races for the day - marking the end of the regatta. Hats off to Carol Ewing and her entire race committee for excellent race management throughout the regatta. The volunteerism shown both off and on the water this week was tremendous and made for an excellent experience for competitors, spectators, and race management. This is a true testament to both the Star Class and Cleveland Yachting Club as these days, it’s hard to find volunteers for great events like these - it takes a village!
WHAT AN EVENT! Very exciting and tight racing - in the words of Augie Diaz, your 2023 Western Hemisphere Champion - “This regatta was very challenging with both conditions and talented competitors.” Augie dedicated this win to his late father who passed earlier this year, he emphasized that in this fleet his father definitely helped answer some prayers from above to push him to #1. Congratulations to Augie Diaz and crew Bruno Prada. The fleet gathered in the CYC Clubhouse for a meal to celebrate the victors and be recognized for their accomplishments over the week.
A very big thank you to our title sponsor Dave Doll of Doll Wealth Management - Morgan Stanley this event would not be possible without their generosity and support. From the race management, to the food and dining provided by the staff of Cleveland Yachting Club, the welcoming culture of this little island on the Rocky River, and the talented competition - this year’s event was a great success and pleasure for competitors. Tim Wilkes was an excellent on the water photographer - be sure to check out some of the epic shots online. Thank you to Richard Wilbur (USA8502) as the chair and organizer of this event - he did an excellent job supported by an army of volunteers and staff from the Cleveland Yachting Club. David Caesar, #2 finisher and VP in Star Fleet Leadership, exalted the club and organizing committee - indicating that they would love to host a world’s at CYC once again.
