BIG(3) ACT I Won by Jorgen Schonherr and Markus Koy
With an impressive performance, including a fight against several penalty hurdles, Jorgen Schonherr and Markus Koy won ACT I of the Star-BIG(3) Series 2022 in Kiel.
Without getting too close to the other participants, the podium finally was an intense fight between the four teams; Schonherr/Koy, shooting stars Kohlhoff/Burzinski, German Champions: Schmidt/Hentschel and the always leading edge focused young Germans, Borbet/Spehr.
Borbet/Spehr punished themselves with an OCS in the last and 6th race on Sunday. Talking to Jan Borbet before the prizegiving ceremony, he commented, "Our goal was to reach the podium and maybe to win. We are prepared to go the final step. But no one else but us is responsible for what happened on the starting line of race 6."
It was also great to see how precise the other German Junior Teams incl. newcomers Heuwinkel/Wolff improved in Kiel.
As a result of Arnd Glunde’s approach, supported by the Heinz Nixdorf Verein, Germany is about to make an important step forward to save the next generation of a great Class in great boats.
Hundreds of impressive photos of tough sailing in great conditions in Kiel (thanks to Lars Krumnacker!) show the dynamic, excellence and powerful scenery of Star boat sailing and its community, celebrating ACT I of the Star-BIG(3) Series 2022.
The Möpse, Jochen and Puffy, received a long overdue award for more than 50 years serving the Star class, and were presented with a limited BACARDI Rum edition, personally organised, donated and shipped from our Star Class friends at Bacardi in Miami, following the patronage of Tito Bacardi. Thank you guys for such support.
Another Star of the Stars is the brand new Star beer and food counter which was in operation for the first time. Thanks to all the guys from Kiel-Fleet who made this happen.
Follow the Star-BIG(3) series to our next venues at the Münchner Yacht Club in Starnberg in September and Koninglijke Nederlandsche Zeil-en Roeivereeniging in Muiden in October.
The organizing clubs and the responsible fleets, Starnberger Flotte, Möhnesee- and Essen- and Holland-Fleet for Muiden, are prepared to make it as good as and in some points maybe even better than ACT I in Kiel.
Hope to see you all there.
Your enthusiastic Star-sailing friends and organizers of a great series.
