Remembering Jürgen Janson

Announcements Human Interest - Author: Helmut Sprock - March 01, 2024

Jürgen Janson, member of the STAR Class for nearly 50
years, died on October 25, 2023. Jürgen was activee for
decades with his four "Aquaholics" star boats and was
particularly active on all southern Germany, the
Austrian and south European waters. He was also a
welcomed guest in Berlin on special occasions. He had
served as Fleet Secretary of the Tegernsee Fleet from
1982 and as Captain from 1985 until the end. From
2001 to 2017, he served in addition as Secretary of the
17th District (Donau-Alpen District) and from 2006 to
2017 Class Chairman of the Association of German
STAR Fleets (VDS).
After 2017, he continued to serve as regional
representative South on the VDS board and coordinated the regatta dates until the end.

He was also Event-Measurer of the I.S.C.Y.R.A., race director and international referee of the IYRU. For decades, Jürgen organized the "Silberstern" on Lake Tegernsee and numerous district championships. With the successful championship of the 17th-District in august 2023 in his home club YC Tegernsee, he was able to crown this chapter of his sailing life's work.

We will miss the special way in which he tirelessly and meticulously looked after the well- being of the STAR class in Germany and southern Europe. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his dear wife "Traudel” who always actively supported him, and to his family.
