The Fleet of Trieste mourns the sudden departure of Renzo Simoni, who left us the last September 2nd, at the age 68 years.
Renzo, an engineer specialised in job security, has been a member of the fleet since 2003, right after it was reinstated. He was for many years crew of Franco de Denaro, the captain of the fleet and the person who involved him in the Starclass. Renzo was the Secretary of the fleet since 2007 and until 2012: together they worked and organised the activity of sailing Stars in Trieste, where season events culminate in The Coppa Tito Nordio, the oldest challenge Trophy of the Italian Sailing Federation. They took part to a number of regattas around Italy, including the Benetti Trophy and the Eastern Hemisphere Championship held in Napoli in 2006. Later he crewed for many skippers of the fleet, in recent years he mainly sailed with his beloved son Filippo on their Star “Baleferme”, and with Stefano Longhi and Fabio Zlatich. He and Stefano took part to the Eastern Hemisphere Championship held in Trieste in 2018.
All of us are grateful to him for his positive attitude, for his generosity and the time he spent in the fleet affairs, always with cheerfulness and intelligence.
All the fleet expresses his sympathy to Renzo’s wife Marina, along with their children Filippo and Giovanna.
Fair winds Renzo.
