Remembering Willy Calegari

Last night Guillermo “Willy” Calegari passed away at 98 years old. 

Born in the crazy 1925, Father of a Star sailors family, Willy started sailing in the 50’s, He was an Olympian at the 1972 Games in the Star, An exceptional yachtsman full of charm.

Willy was a helmsman full of ocean racing experience with many Fastnet Races, Admirals Cup, Newport to Bermuda, Buenos Aires to Rio and many other epic challenges at its time.

He was commodore of Club Nautico Olivos in Buenos Aires from 1981 until mid 90’s and chairman of the fantastic 1988 Star worlds.

His last star regatta was the 2005 worlds at 82 years sailing on board woodie Earline 5235.

The Calegari Legacy will continue for many more years with his Son Memo and grandson Fede.
