Star Class Honoring the Past, Leading the Future
Star heroes Ding Schoonmaker and Vince Brun were inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame on Sunday, while we at Coral Reef Yacht Club hosted the Schoonmaker Cup for 16 Star boats as the first event in the annual Star Winter Series. As the Cup was presented by Ding, who was also presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his many substantial contributions to sailing in general in addition to those pertaining to the Star Class, we thought it would be fun to participate in the induction festivities up the beach at Lauderdale Yacht Club by gathering around the Cup and a classic picture of Ding before the sailing. I think all the sailors signed it (see attached photo) and CRYC Commodore Chris Lanza delivered it to Ding at the dinner there Saturday. Commodore Lanza reported it (and the letters sent by ISCYRA Commodore Chiarella) were met with gratitude and beaming smiles!
Once again, the Star Class honors the past!
