National Sailing Hall of Fame’s 2017 Classic Wooden Sailboat Rendezvous and Race:

The National Sailing Hall of Fame is located at 69 Prince George Street; Annapolis, Maryland; USA.  The event is open to any wooden sailboat designed prior to 1970, of which woody Stars obviously qualify.  The rendezvous at the National Sailing Hall of Fame is scheduled for Friday 15 September and Saturday 16 September and is a great chance to show off your woody Star along with all the other classic wooden boats.  The race is scheduled for Sunday 17 September.

The race is multiple loops around a fixed course in Annapolis Harbor against a wide array of different design classic wooden boats.  It has a pursuit type start in which the slower boats start earlier and the faster boats start later.  If everyone sailed a perfect race, theoretically all the boats would finish at the same time.   Stars typically start about an hour after the first boat - and sailing through the fleet to finish is part of the fun.   There are a number of different classes is similar boats are competing against each other.  I’m attaching a summary of last year’s results I had submitted to the Star Class website with a more complete description of the race and some nice pictures.

Like last year, if we can get 3 or more Stars registered by August 25, we’ll race as our own class.  Last year we had Keith & Avery Donald’s HOPE (#4125, built 1959); John Sherwood’s & Tom Price’s CONFLICT (#4100, built 1959); Elliott Oldak’s SASHAY (#3779, built 1956); and Tom Gahs’ & Kris Uebersax’s TROUT (#178, built 1924) sail and it was an incredible amount of fun.  It would be fantastic if we could get even more woody Stars to participate this year, so please spread the word.  The cost is only $30 if you register by 25 August; after that the cost goes up to $50 so there are two incentives to register early (we get our own class and the cost).  Registration closes 16 September.
